The RenaldoThe Ensemble

Saturday night, Mike and I stumbled upon Aldo Perez’s The RenaldoThe Ensemble playing at The Living Room on Ludlow and Rivington.  It turned out to be some of the most hysterical, energetic and shocking entertainment I’ve ever experienced.

I can only describe it as John Waters meets Jim Carrey meets Modest Mouse meets Cabaret.  Aldo Perez is a musical and comic genius, mixing highly amusing non-sequitors with chickens orgasming, circus music and Italian Opera.  Oh, and some of the sickest guitar solos you’ll hear on the LES.

Jenny Lee on clarinet and vocals, Jonathan Roberts on keyboard and piano, as well as four other band members on oboe, tuba, congos, drums and barn animal sounds, round out the experience.

The RenaldoThe is only one of many of Aldo’s performace groups, in addition to Psycho the Clown.  They’re playing again at The Living Room on Saturday, December 27th at 11 p.m.  It’s an experience you don’t want to miss.  I’m going back for seconds.
